South African designer\u00a0Jacques LaGrange<\/strong>, well-known as the \u201cKing of Couture\u201d \u2013 showcased a collection of showstopping glamorous garments with a unique touch of drama at New York Fashion Week.<\/p>\n<\/div>

JEN:\u00a0\u00a0Hey Jacques! So happy to see you here in New York! Tell me more about your catwalk collection with Maarkah for NYFW?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES: Hi Jen! Maarkah is the Arabic word for \u2018brands\u2019.\u00a0 Maarkah, Runway Prestige and Rabab Abdalla invited me to show at Maarkah New York Fashion Week last year, and I\u2019m honoured to have been invited back again this year. Rabab\u2019s vision is to see greater representation of Middle Eastern and African designers in mainstream American fashion.\u00a0 The venue was incredible \u2013 the Museum of The City of New York.<\/p>\n<\/div>

JEN:\u00a0\u00a0Describe the vision for your new collection.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES: The new collection is my vision for the future how I see these modest ladies dress.\u00a0 It was specifically designed for Maarkah as I have a very strong private client base in Dubai and Amman \u2013 in addition to all through Europe, and of course, SA.<\/p>\n<\/div>

JEN:\u00a0\u00a0And the materials?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES: The collection plays with metallic floral displays for Spring\/Summer couture. Very flowing elegant and feminine \u2013 it\u2019s wearable couture for the modern client, with top quality fabrics and impeccable workmanship.\u00a0 Beaded silks, metallic flowers hand beaded and cut.\u00a0 Silver, white, and winter white were the main colours to provide a glimpse into the future. You could call it \u201cFuture modest wear\u201d!<\/p>\n<\/div>

JEN:\u00a0What are some of the challenges you\u2019ve needed to overcome, in order to put on an international fashion show?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES:\u00a0 The challenge is always finding superb quality fabrics and highly efficient workers, which puts SA a bit behind the rest of the fashion world.\u00a0 Having 80% European clients that dress Jacques LaGrange and Chanel, for instance \u2013 I have to be a cut above the rest.\u00a0 Travelling is my oxygen! (laughing<\/em>) It gives me new life!<\/p>\n

JEN:\u00a0So I take it you love New York then!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES: Indeed! New York is at the head of my Top 3 cities to visit.\u00a0 It\u2019s a place where it\u2019s up to you, to stand out \u2013 and not up to others.\u00a0 If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere!<\/p>\n

JEN:\u00a0\u00a0Sounds like a song we know!<\/em>\u00a0(singing<\/em>)\u00a0What can we expect from the \u2018King of Couture\u2019 in the near future?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

JACQUES: Well, Jen \u2013 the good news is that I\u2019m fully booked with private clients for the whole next year!<\/p>\n
